Apple Unveils New M5-Powered iPad, Macbook and Vision Pro
The iPad Pro is now even more powerful than most laptops, while the Apple Vision Pro has jumped from M2 to M5 – a multi-generational leap in processing power.
Apple today unveiled a suite of new hardware powered by its next-generation M5 chip, advancing its push into AI, graphics, and performance across iPad and MacBook – and even announcing an upgraded version of the Apple Vision Pro. The launch marks Apple’s biggest performance leap since the original M1, with the tech giant signalling a clear emphasis on AI processing, display tech and battery efficiency as key focus areas.
At the centre of the announcements is the new iPad Pro, offering Apple’s best ever Ultra Retina XDR display in both 11-inch and 13-inch options. The tablet is powered by the brand new M5 chip, which Apple says delivers up to 3.5 times faster AI performance than its predecessor and 5.6 times faster than the first-generation M1. The new architecture features a 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, supported by a 16-core Neural Engine and increased unified memory bandwidth. Wi-Fi 7 is enabled by the new N1 wireless chip, while a C1X modem pushes cellular speeds up to 50 percent faster than before. Prices start at £999 GBP / $999 USD, with configurations for ROM/RAM ranging from 256GB/12GB to 2TB/16GB.
On the Mac side, Apple has introduced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro also equipped with the M5 chip that it claims has up to 24 hours of battery life. The new laptop features improved, faster SSD performance, as well as gains across both graphics and AI tasks. And, in terms of pricing, it’s on par with its predecessor, starting at £1,599 GBP / $1,599 USD, with internal storage options going up to 4TB.
The Cupertino-based brand also revealed an updated, M5-powered Vision Pro that benefits from a multi-generational leap in processing power compared to the original Vision Pro from 2024 (which was powered by Apple’s M2 silicone). The new headset comes bundled with a new Dual Knit Band that Apple says delivers improved fit and comfort, and it runs the latest visionOS 26 that adds updated Personas, new immersive experiences and more – included extended support for spatial apps. Storage options include 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, and prices starting at £3,199 GBP / $3,499 USD.
Apple’s new products continue its drive to integrate more AI-focused performance across its entire hardware ecosystem, positioning the M5 as the company’s most significant chip upgrade since Apple Silicon debuted.
