New Balance produces its MADE in UK products in the town of Flimby, a costal village on the West side of the United Kingdom that’s currently in a rainy, foggy season. The latest product out of the brand’s Flimby factory, however, is one designed — and named — for warm sun and soft beaches: a colorway of the 991v2 dubbed “Cuban Sand.”
As you’d rightfully assume from hearing the shoe’s moniker, the “Cuban Sand” features an upper dressed in a combination of sandy tan suede and mesh. Grey branded hits and other accents add a touch of flair and a bit of Flimby winter to the design, while a two-tone midsole with a murky heel clip rounds off the lion’s share of the look. If you have a gander at the shoe’s outsole, you’ll also see a snaking blue strip that hints at the full-length FuelCell cushioning housed in the footbed.
This new beach-ready take on the 991v2, itself a hybrid of New Balance’s famed 991 and 992 models, is available now via retailers like Shoe Chapter. As Shoe Chapter is located in Denmark, the currency translation on its webpage lists the price as $215.15 USD, but the New Balance 991v2 typically retails for $250 USD.
