In stark contrast to its previous collection dominated by an all-black utilitarian design, Mountain Research starts 2025 with a clean slate and an optimistic attitude. For SS25 the Japanese label explores the concept of “post-tech”: as outdoor gear is increasingly adapted into everyday wardrobes, fusion with casual and craft-focussed style results in a more approachable and open-ended aesthetic.

Mountain Research introduces a lively palette of rich primary colors and rustic materials like corduroy, suede, and textured wovens. Aligning with its signature “Anarcho-Mountaineer” ethos, one look is dominated by a red fleece set worn with a yellow undershirt, red gloves, and a large hiking backpack decorated with carabiners and charms. Another pair of matching looks in white and blue, show cropped denim trucker jackets layered over quilt-patterned fabrics, forming a skirt-like panel.

Naturally, more traditional outdoor gear is included in the collection too, including a fisherman-esque collared utility shirt with matching pants, and elsewhere, a white shell jacket and pants set accented with black paneling and “Anarcho-Mountaineers” branding.

The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” is referenced in multiple pieces including a green sun visor with the song’s title on the headband and graphic tees featuring retro hiking graphics. Mountain Research also offers a lineup of mesh jerseys including a “Holiday in the Mountains” jersey, a primary blue “Slide Away” jersey and a yellow football-style “Mountain Hymns” jersey.

Mountain Research’s SS25 collection is set to drop on the brand’s website on Friday, January 17. See the full collection now in the gallery above.
