Mac Miller's 'Balloonerism' Is Here
The long-awaited lost project.

Mac Miller‘s lost project has landed at last. Over a decade after its creation, Balloonerism – which marks Mac’s second posthumous album – has transcended as one of the musician’s trippiest and true-to-self releases to date, drenched in psychedelic instrumentation and existential lyricism.
Recorded between 2013 and 2014 (in between Watching Movies With The Sound Off album and Faces mixtape), Balloonerism offers an authentic, atmospheric look into the Mac’s psyche. Spanning 14 tracks, Balloonerism is primarily a solo effort from Mac, who is joined by longtime friend SZA on “DJ’s Chord Organ” (initially referred to by SZA as “The Song That Changed Everything) and, his musical alter ego Delusional Thomas on “Transformations.” This marks the first time Delusional Thomas – also the name of Mac’s 2013 mixtape – is credited on a studio track.
In a statement from Mac’s estate via @92tilinfinity, Balloonerism is “a project that was of great importance to Malcolm – to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately GO:OD AM and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence.”
“We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world.”
Balloonerism arrives alongside a companion film by Samuel Jerome Mason, who directed Miller’s 2021 music video for “Colors and Shapes.” The animated film screened in a select bunch of cities tonight just ahead of the album drop, and is now available to stream on Amazon Prime as well.
And the moment we’ve all been waiting for: stream Balloonerism on all DSPs now.
