Hisense is taking the term “big screen TV” into new territory, announcing a new and quantifiably mammoth 136-inch TV at CES 2025 this week.

Not one to do things by halves, the Hisense 136MX is the tech giant’s very first consumer-focused MicroLED television – a technology that’s still in its relative commercial infancy, but one likely to be the heir apparent to OLED which we should start to see more over the coming months.

Though MicroLED TVs have yet to take off – owing largely to the current prohibitive cost of the burgeoning technology – they offer several advantages over OLED and other types of display, including being much brighter, lasting longer, having better color accuracy and contrast, and being more power efficient. They feature incredibly small LEDs (usually smaller than 50 micrometers) that each act as individual light sources – not only can they emit their own light on a per-pixel basis, they can also be individually switched on and off to give the TV a far greater level of control over how the picture looks. Additionally, the LEDs in MicroLED are also known as inorganic LEDs, meaning the chance of “burn-in” is greatly reduced compared to the LEDs found in OLED TVs.

The Hisense 136MX makes the most of its MicroLED technology and can reach a brightness of 10,000 nits. It’s powered by Hisense’s Hi-View AI Engine X processor and runs on Hisense’s VIDAA operating system.

There’s no word yet on if or when the Hisense 136MX will be released, but stay tuned for updates as we get them.
