Hideo Kojima may be calling it quits soon when it comes to creating video games. The video game legend took to X to speak on his longevity in the industry.

In a new post on X, Kojima shares that he does not feel he will be designing video games for long. He wrote, “At this age, I can’t help but think about how much longer I’ll be able to stay ‘creative’. I want to keep going for the rest of my life, but is it 10 more years? 20? Every day feels like I’m racing against the clock. Even now, at 87, Ridley Scott is still active. And back when he was past 60 – my current stage in life – he created the masterpiece Gladiator.”

Having joined Konami in 1986 before going solo in 2015, Kojima designed and wrote the first game in the now long-running Metal Gear Solid franchise. His first independent release was the critically acclaimed Death Stranding and now, he is working on the sequel, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and a big screen adaptation as well. He is also developing a new stealth game with Jordan Peele under the codename Physint which was announced last February. So far, Kojima has not announced the official release date for the game just yet, but he said 2026 will mark the 40th anniversary of him being a game developer.
