  • Hideo Kojima revealed a screenshot from his upcoming horror IP, OD, featuring an eerie hallway resembling his canceled project, P.T.
  • In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, the game designer revealed that other major publishers rejected OD, calling the experimental concept “crazy”

Hideo Kojima has once again ignited intense speculation across the gaming industry after sharing a striking screenshot from a previously released trailer for his upcoming horror title, OD.

Shared on Kojima Productions‘ official social channels alongside an Entertainment Weekly feature celebrating Xbox’s 25th anniversary, the image features a narrow, dimly lit hallway sporting an oppressive, sickly yellow paint choice. At the far end of the corridor, an open door frames a deeply disturbing, shadowy figure looming in the darkness, while a retro television set sits heavily on a table.

To millions of fans, the composition and suffocating atmosphere of the image bear a striking, undeniable resemblance to P.T. (Playable Teaser) — Kojima’s legendary 2014 psychological horror demo for the since-cancelled Silent Hills project. By recirculating this specific, eerie hallway aesthetic, Kojima appears to be subtly reminding the community that he is finally channeling the avant-garde spirit of his most famous lost masterpiece into his newest ventur

The visual reminder arrives alongside fascinating behind-the-scenes insights from Kojima, who disclosed that Microsoft’s Xbox was the only major gaming platform willing to take a chance on his radical vision. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kojima revealed that he originally pitched the core concept of OD to numerous major publishers and platform holders.

The feedback was universally dismissive, with executives flatly telling him he was “crazy” and admitting they fundamentally could not understand the unproven design mechanics. It wasn’t until Kojima brought the idea to former Xbox boss Phil Spencer that the project found a home. Spencer immediately grasped the eccentric, high-risk vision, ultimately greenlighting the game under the Xbox Game Studios banner to grant Kojima Productions the heavy financial and cloud-based infrastructure required to build it.
