fragment design and Casio Team Up for a Houndstooth-Adorned Electric Keyboard
The custom Casiotone — a classic Casio keyboard from the ’80s — will be available exclusively at Hiroshi Fujiwara’s VA store.

fragment design and Casio have joined forces for a special take on the Casiotone CT-S1 electronic keyboard. A hallmark of Casio’s electronic music offerings in the ’80s, the CT-S1 has been given a little extra punch for this reissue thanks to a houndstooth pattern atop its speakers and a handful of fragment design’s signature branded hits.
Besides the speaker covering, the keyboard — dressed in a traditional black-and-white color scheme — offers up a co-branded text hit on its right side and fragment’s double lightning bolt logo directly above its C8 key. All of its tuning knobs are presented in black, making for a compelling departure from the original Casiotone, which utilized a light grey base with a black, red and brown control system.
From a technological standpoint, the fragment design x Casiotone CT-S1 offers 12 “Casio Classic” tones that reference different electronic instruments developed by the company and 10 new “Advanced Tones” that draw from the keyboard’s modern-day AiX sound source. The device also boasts a horizontal bass reflex mechanism for powerful and immersive sound.
fragment design is, of course, no stranger to collaborating on musical instruments: back in December, the company worked with Fender on a limited-edition Telecaster guitar, and has also lent its design ethos to acoustic guitars in the past as well.
The fragment design x Casiotone CT-S1 is slated to release at fragment design founder Hiroshi Fujiwara’s VA (short for “Various Artists”) store and on the VA website come January 16. It’s priced at ¥71,500 JPY (approximately $453 USD).
