Honda Removes One of The Type R's Most Iconic Elements
Replacing its bold red seats with black, as part of the new “Racing Black Package.”

Honda has introduced a new twist to its Civic Type R lineup with the launch of the “Racing Black Package,” unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025. The update sees the vehicle’s iconic red seats swapped out for a set of sleek black ones dressed in Lux/ultra suede.
The Civic Type R has been synonymous with red seats, a hallmark of Honda’s racing spirit, since the model’s inception. However, the Racing Black Package marks a departure from tradition, aiming for a more understated yet sophisticated look. Black ultrasuede upholstery extends across the dashboard and door linings, while subtle silver and black pinstripe accents are featured on the air conditioning controls and power window switch panels.
While certainly a style choice, the black interior also serves a practical purpose, by minimizing interior light reflection, creating a focused cockpit environment designed to enhance the driving experience. Additional features include wireless charging, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and special color stitching across key interior elements.
The official release for the optional package, in the Japanese market, is set for January 23 and comes priced at ¥5,998,300 JPY or nearly $40,000 USD. See more of the new Racing Black Package Civic Type R in the video by Honda below.
