Franck Muller’s Silhouette CX Snake Emerald Captures Mysterious Serpentine Allure
Marking the asymmetrical watch case’s debut.
In celebration of the Year of the Snake, Franck Muller has revealed the Silhouette CX Snake — an exclusive timepiece that as the brand puts it, “combines serpentine allure with technical innovation.” While Franck Muller’s previous festive timepiece took on a more playful approach for the Year of the Dragon, this year’s offering captures the mysterious appeal and sinuous forms of its zodiac animal.
Crafted from 18k rose gold, the watch’s design gracefully interprets the fluidity and elegance symbolized by the snake, presenting it in a manner that amalgamates artistry with precision. The reference also marks the debut of the Silhouette CX case, an advanced evolution in Franck Muller’s watch design legacy overseen by co-founder and master case-maker Vartan Sirmakes.
Inspired by the Curvex CX, the case is noted for its entrancing twists and asymmetrical alignment, mirroring the snake’s undulating motion. Traditional dimensional control methods were set aside in favor of detailed 3D files guiding the creation process. A significant challenge in the Silhouette CX’s design is the sapphire glass, which extends to the lugs, providing a clear view of the dial.
The dial itself features numerals arranged for perfect alignment within the irregular outline, achieved through 3D CNC machining. Adding an extra layer of refinement, the dial showcases a snake motif meticulously handset with deep green emeralds in an intricate snow-setting technique.
At the heart of the timepiece beats the in-house MVT FM 2038 movement, placed centrally within a specially designed casing ring to fit the watch’s asymmetrical shape. Attention to detail is also given to the leather strap, which comes embossed with a snakeskin texture in a serpentine green hue, all ergonomically integrated into the case.
