Andrew Garfield is clearing the air in regards to his supposed participation in the upcoming Spider-Man 4.

Speaking to GQ UK, the actor opened up about the “new phase of his post-hiatus career” and how he’s “being more selective” with his future roles. Unfortunately for some fans, his immediate future doesn’t include Spider-Man 4. “I’m gonna disappoint you,” he said, although he acknowledges that some may think he’s bluffing after he vehemently denied appearing on Spider-Man: No Way Home. “Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”

Garfield is not completely closed off to the idea of returning to a big franchise, however. “If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun,” he continued. “Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something.”

The 41-year-old actor portrayed Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Amazing-Spider Man and its sequel in 2012 and 2014, and then again in 2021’s No Way Home.

Spider-Man 4 is set to begin production this summer as per franchise star Tom Holland. He also previously talked about the film’s script on the Rich Roll Podcast, “It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago, and it really lit a fire in me.” He added, “Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’ But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting.”
