Lando Norris Takes on Silverstone in a Life-Size LEGO McLaren P1
Built from a staggering 342,817 LEGO Technic pieces.
LEGO and McLaren Automotive have unveiled a life-size, driveable LEGO Technic McLaren P1. McLaren Formula 1 driver Lando Norris put the unique creation to the ultimate test by completing a lap around the iconic Silverstone Circuit.
Built from a staggering 342,817 LEGO Technic pieces, this one-of-a-kind McLaren P1 replica weighs 2,689 lbs and is fully capable of steering and navigating corners — a first for any LEGO build. The car is powered by an electric motor, using LEGO Technic Function batteries and a standard electric car battery, making it the most advanced LEGO creation to date.
The ambitious project required 8,344 hours of work from 23 specialists, including engineers, designers and builders from both LEGO and McLaren. The final product is a significant display of creativity and precision, matching the dimensions of the real McLaren P1 at 4,980 mm long, 2,101 mm wide and 1,133 mm high.
With McLaren’s deep history at Silverstone, the track was a fitting venue for the car’s debut lap, piloted by Norris. Fans can purchase the 1:8 scale LEGO Technic McLaren P1 set for $450 USD now, via LEGO’s official site and select stores.
