Netflix Greenlights Animated 'Ghostbusters' Series
The project was first announced in 2022.
An animated Ghostbusters series is officially in the works over at Netflix.
The news arrives two years after its initial announcement, with Variety reporting that the 3D title “will be tonally in line” with the latest string of Ghostbuster films. Elliott Kalan is joining the series as a writer, and will also be executive producing alongside Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, who penned and directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Frozen Empire. Additional details, including a cast and plot details, are yet to be announced.
This animated series will mark the third of its kind in the entirety of the franchise following The Real Ghostbusters in the mid ’80s to early ’90s, and Extreme Ghostbusters in 1997.
The latest film in the franchise, Frozen Empire, starred Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor and Logan Kim, while the OG cast of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton also reprised their roles. The movie received lukewarm reviews and went on to gross $201.9 million USD in the global box office.
