Patta and Helinox's Chair One is Rooted in the Cultural Heritage of the Maroon Communities
Available to shop from July 12.
Patta and Helinox have just unveiled a brand-new collaboration, merging heritage and modern design into the new Helinox Chair One, seen through the eyes of Patta.
Since 2009, Helinox has been known for assembling premium affordable furniture, designed to make you feel at home anywhere, from backpacking in the woods to lounging on the beach. Now, Patta and Helinox’s new collaboration — which comes with an accompanying storage bag — is inspired by Surinamese Pangi cloth, a garment deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of the Maroon communities.
The Pangi — known as “Kosu” — was once a symbol of inferiority, however, it has transformed and is now celebrated as a symbol of freedom and pride. Historically, the Pangi was associated with free-spirited Africans who established communities in Suriname’s interior in the 1760s. Its journey from stigma to pride reflects the resilience and strength of these communities.
With this in mind, the Patta x Helinox Chair One is portable and easy to set up, making it perfect for any environment. Its minimalistic aesthetic allows for quick assembly, while the chair’s components are breathable, packable, and lightweight. Meanwhile, a slew of durable all-weather fabrics are included alongside added carry options, standing as a tribute to the resilience of the Maroon community and a testament to the dynamic, evolving cultural identity of Suriname.
Take a closer look at the Patta x Helinox Chair One above and be it’ll be available to shop via the official Patta website from July 12 at 1 p.m. CEST.
