Tracksmith x Mami Wata Celebrate African Surf Culture in New ‘Run Surf Run’ Collection
Performancewear engineered to seamlessly transition from a run to a surf session.
Tracksmith has joined forces with African surf brand Mami Wata to reimagine a selection of its flagship pieces.
One of the Boston brand’s highly sought-after staples is its Run Cannonball Run Shorts. While runners may not be comfortable running in swim shorts – and a wet pair of standard running shorts also invites chafing – the Run Cannonball Run Shorts are billed as a “swim-friendly,” quick-drying solution.
For Tracksmith’s collaboration with Mami Wata, the latter of which translates to “Mama Water” in West African pidgin English, the two brands have engineered garments equally equipped to chase waves and hit the pavement with the Run Surf Run collection.
Tracksmith utilizes the same material in the original short, an Italian stretchy material that’s described as previously being used in Olympic swimsuits. Familiar silhouettes from the brand return across its mix of men’s and women’s garments, spanning singlets, shorts, sports bras, tees and tanks.
A color palette of predominantly blue, white and yellow makes up the bulk of the performancewear capsule, while a few pieces bear graphics of runner-surfers and one button-down features a colorful, modernist print.
In addition to the clothing, Tracksmith and Mami Wata have designed a towel, cap and even a limited-edition surfboard, which will be sold exclusively at Trackhouse retail locations in Boston, New York and London.
