The Nike Pegasus 41 is the Dawn Of A New Era

Since Nike brought the first iteration of the Pegasus to market in 1983, it’s become a staple — a lightweight, speedy-yet-stable “daily driver,” in running parlance, that’s been seen on the feet of everyone from Eliud Kipchoge to determined weekend warriors training for their first 10K.

Now in its fifth decade on the market, the Pegasus line has reinvented itself yet again with the all-new Pegasus 41, a sneaker that honors the model’s adaptable heritage but also introduces several technological “firsts.”

Where recent Pegasus models from the Pegasus 37 to the Pegasus 40 made use of Nike’s bouncy React foam, the Pegasus 41 opts for a new ReactX foam blend, a technology that’s much softer than traditional React, debuted on 2023’s InfinityRN 4, and, Nike claims, returns 13% more energy than regular React foam while also reducing the shoe’s carbon footprint by almost 50%. This soft foam is combined with springy Zoom Air units in both the heel and forefoot for extra responsiveness and pop, a sandwich of Nike Running tech that punches well above the shoe’s $140 USD price point.

Between the engineered mesh upper and the midsole’s cushioning setup, the Pegasus 41 isn’t the lightest running shoe on the market — a men’s size 10.5 weighs in at 10.4 ounces — but thanks to its weight distribution and responsive cushioning it runs lighter. The full coverage provided by the tacky rubber outsole will also keep runners churning well past the 300-mile benchmark, where most running shoes start to give out.

Available in more than a half-dozen colorways at launch, with more palettes (and even styles) on the way — before the year’s out, we’ll see the adaptable Pegasus 41 EasyOn and the off-road-ready Pegasus Trail 5 plus the weatherproof Pegasus Trail 41 GORE-TEX and Pegasus 41 Winter GORE-TEX — there’s a Pegasus model for every runner in 2024.
