Ed Ruscha, the king of the LA art world, is currently experiencing one of his largest retrospectives to date at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). To coincide with the exhibition, The Hole is featuring a group show of its own that pays tribute to Ruscha’s impact on generations of creatives, both in the City of Angels and abroad.

Aptly titled HOLLYWOOD DREAM BUBBLE: Ed Ruscha’s Influence in Los Angeles and Beyond, the exhibition comprises of paintings, sculptures, works on paper and silkscreened t-shirts inspired by the acclaimed American artist’s six decade practice. Curated by Jessica Gallucci and artist Dani Tull, the show maps out a variety of stylistic periods throughout Ruscha’s career through the lens and aesthetics sensibilities of those he’s left an indelible mark on. Artists include meteoric figures in their own right, from Kenny Scharf and Catherine Opie to Mike Kelley and Raymond Pettibon, along with works by emerging names, such as Jeremy Shockley, Jaime Muñoz and the artist’s own son, Eddie Ruscha.

To bring such an extensive list of art, The Hole worked alongside fellow galleries: François Ghebaly, OCHI, BLUM, White Cube, Ruscha’s Hamilton Press, the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts, Stars Gallery and Hauser & Wirth, amongst others. “With more than seventy artists, this is not a ‘tightly curated’ exhibition: neither could it possibly be a comprehensive one,” Gallucci and Tull expalined. “HOLLYWOOD DREAM BUBBLE is just a piece of the discourse around the great artist’s reach and a celebration of his impact among American artists across generations. Two and a half miles away from Ruscha’s LACMA retrospective, the conversation continues.”

The exhibition will be on view in Los Angeles until June 15, 2024.
