It’s been just over a year since the LEGO Icons line revived the brand’s partnership with The Lord of the Rings by introducing a $500 USD Rivendell set. The 6,167-piece build and its 15 minifigures had fans clamoring for more, something LEGO has finally addressed with the unveiling of its grand Barad-Dûr set.
Barad-Dûr, aka the Dark Fortress, served as Sauron’s main stronghold and has been recreated with a massive 5,471-piece build that stands high at over 32 inches tall. Its many layers are loaded with details and references to the iconic franchise as it is accompanied by 10 minifigures — including Sauron, the Mouth of Sauron, Frodo, Sam, Gollum, Gothmog and Orcs. To top it all off, the Eye of Sauron rests at the uppermost level of Barad-Dûr and can have its eye lit via a light brick.
The LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings: Barad-Dûr set is due to release on June 4 via LEGO at a price of $460 USD. However, LEGO Insider access — a free loyalty program — offers the set as early as June 1. On top of this, purchases made between June 1 and June 7 will include a free LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings: Fell Beast set (pictured in the above gallery’s first image) — a 269-piece build that features the creature with posable wings and a Nazgûl minifigure.
