FX and Hulu Officially Announce 'Shogun' Seasons 2 and 3
The networks will develop the continuation alongside the estate of author James Clavell.
The second and third seasons of Shogun is officially in the works over at FX and Hulu.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the upcoming installments will be developed alongside the estate of James Clavell, the author of the historical novel that the TV series is based on. Creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, executive producer Michaela Clavell and lead star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada will all be involved in the next two seasons.
Shogun premiered with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and has been dubbed FX’s most-watched show in the streamer’s history. It follows the stories of English sailor John Blackthorne, “who ends up shipwrecked in Japan, a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him; Lord Toranaga, a shrewd, powerful daimyo, at odds with his own dangerous, political rivals; and Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but dishonorable family ties, who must prove her value and allegiance.” Clavell’s original historical fiction is loosely based on English navigator William Adams, who became a samurai in Japan under Tokugawa Ieyasu.
