The Deetz family is returning home to Winter River, Connecticut in the long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice, fittingly titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Arriving 36 years after the original, Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) now has a teenage daughter of her own, Astrid (Jenna Ortega). After a family tragedy forces the Deetz to return to the house Lydia abandoned decades prior, Astrid discovers the same model of the town in the attic, accidentally opening up a portal to the afterlife once again.

Jeffrey Jones, who played Lydia’s father Charles, has been written out of the sequel, an unsurprising element given Jones’ was essentially ousted from the industry after being arrested for child pornography charges in 2002.

“I can’t believe grandpa is dead,” Astrid says in the trailer as the family gathers around a grave.

Alongside Ryder, Michael Keaton will reprise his performance as Beetlejuice, while Catherine O’Hara returns as Lycia’s mother, Delia. New to the star-studded cast is Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti and Willem Dafoe. Burton will be directing a screenplay penned by the duo of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who also wrote the script for the Addams family spin-off Wednesday.
