Mitski Shares Dramatic Music Video for “Star”

After wrapping up a tour for her latest album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, Mitski has shared an official music video for the single “Star.”
Billed as a space-rock epic, the experimental track continuously builds with waltz-like instrumentation over which Mitski delivers her signature soaring vocals.
For the video, the singer teamed up with director Maegan Houang. Taking inspiration from the abstract work of Japanese filmmaker Kenji Mizoguchi, the two linked up last summer for a nighttime shoot on a small pond. Captured in black-and-white, Mitski performs from a small rowboat surrounded by fog and mountains.
“Unlike the more narrative/concept driven videos Mitski and I have done together in the past, I wanted this video to encapsulate the impressionistic circularity we all experience,” Houang said. “Our lives oscillate between light and dark repeating itself in an endless cycle where nothing is permanent. The best moments are fleeting, but so are the bad.”
