Cervélo’s Revamped Áspero Gravel Bike Arrives With a Slimmer, Aerodynamic Silhouette

Among the countless bike brands – some of which run into the tens of thousands – Cervélo is lauded by many as the most capable and versatile gravel bike, whether on a flat road or a steep climb. Perhaps the best testament to its superior performance is the reigning Visma-Lease a Bike: the team that won the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023 exclusively rides Cervélo models.

Consistently building on its capabilities, the Cervélo team has redesigned its flagship model, the Áspero. Originally rolled out in 2019, the new-and-improved Áspero offers greater comfort and aerodynamic performance.

For those taking their bike out for lengthy rides, the seat stays of the Áspero have been dropped for increased compliance, meaning the bike’s frame is essentially better equipped to cushion the rider by bending the seat tube. In tandem with longer chainstays, it reduces the rider’s stiffness, along with potential drag.

Elsewhere, Cervélo introduced its T47a threaded bottom bracket, which serves to eliminate creaking and hold together the frame with more stability than a press-fit. The team also tapped SRAM for its Universal Derailleur Hanger – a part that’s designed to be able to bend or even break to protect the frame in the event of a crash.

The new Cervélo’s Áspero comes in a variety of models and sizes. Frames run for $2,700 USD, while full bikes range from $3,200 USD to $5,500 USD. Check out the full lineup on the Cervélo website.
