Deus Ex Machina Opens New Silver Lake Location
Echoing the ethos of its Venice Beach flagship and marking a significant milestone in its expansion.
Deus Ex Machina, a brand known for blending lifestyle and moto-culture, has unveiled its newest venture in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion. Echoing the ethos of its Venice Beach flagship which opened in 2012, the Silver Lake store at 3815 Sunset Boulevard is a nod to the brand’s deeply ingrained cultural underpinnings and a tribute to Deus founder Dare Jennings’ roots in the music industry as the former owner of Phantom Records.
This latest location is designed to be a cultural hub that embodies Deus’s essence, combining music, art and moto-culture. The store features an exclusive selection of Deus apparel, locally made ceramics, a hand-picked collection of books and a wall of vinyl records played on a vintage Hi-Fi setup. A sound desk is positioned in the shopfront window inviting local and international DJs to create a unique auditory experience for the community.
Architecturally, the Silver Lake store invokes the minimalist aesthetics of Kengo Kuma and Donald Judd. Utilizing natural materials like long-grain Douglas fir and traditional Japanese framing, the space not only reflects Deus’s style but also enhances the acoustic quality, making it a haven for audiophiles.
Weekly live events and a commitment to fostering a sense of community solidify Deus Silver Lake as more than just a store and more of a destination where enthusiasts and newcomers alike can immerse themselves in the Deus lifestyle. The store is a collaborative effort designed by Deus co-founder Carby Tuckwell and Stefan Wigand of Casa Studio, with construction led by Tobias Hayduk of Who Built It and Gold Ghost Vintage Works, heralding a new chapter for Deus Ex Machina.
