Apple in Talks With OpenAI, Google To Bring AI Tech to iPhone
The company is reportedly in “active negotiations” with Google.

Apple is reportedly looking to bring advanced AI to its phones and as part of that effort, the company is talking to some of the tech giants dominating the space.
According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is in conversation with OpenAI and Google about using their technology to power AI on the iPhone. More specifically, Apple would be using OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s own system, Gemini.
Apple is seemingly further along in the conversation with Google and is already in the throes of “active negotiations” with the company, per Bloomberg. It’s also reportedly talking to OpenAI, though the stage of those discussions wasn’t revealed.
CEO Tim Cook has previously vocalized his ambitions to bring more AI features to phones. “As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future. That includes artificial intelligence, where we continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort, and we’re excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year,” Cook said during Apple’s latest earnings call.
Apple already has a deal with Google that makes it the default search engine on iPhones, so it may favor the company given they’re already working together.
Competitor Samsung, however, is also powered by Google’s AI tech, so Apple could be considering branching out as a way of ensuring they can differentiate the features they offer from the Galaxy line.
