UNIQLO To Reissue Jil Sander, Engineered Garments and LEMAIRE Collaborations For 40th Anniversary
Available exclusively in Japan from December 20.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of UNIQLO, the Japanese clothing retailer will reissue some of its most popular products from past collaborations including Engineered Garments, LEMAIRE and Jil Sander.
Originally introduced in 2015, UNIQLO U creative director Christopher Lemaire‘s first collaborative capsule with Lemaire will return with its lambswool sweaters and sleeveless vests. Elsewhere, NY-based design studio Engineered Garment’s coveted fleece jackets and pullovers will be offered in unisex adult and kids sizes. Lastly, Jil Sander’s 2009-born +J collection returns with broadcloth dress shirts, two down jacket styles, and a cotton shirt jacket.
One will notice that across the collaborators, a familiar thread of timeless style and functional design resonates throughout. The pared-back sensibility that UNIQLO is known for is true to its roots, which began with founder Tadashi Yanai. The businessman drew heavy inspiration from classic American apparel retailers like the Gap. Under the original name “Unique Clothing Warehouse,” the brand opened its first store in Hiroshima in 1984 and began expanding to global markets in the early 2000s.
The pieces will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis exclusively in-store in Japan on December 20 (EG and LEMAIRE) and January 1 (+J). Click here to see a list of participating UNIQLO stores.
