Three documentaries about UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect Luigi Mangione are currently in the works.

The first comes from Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney, known for his work such as The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and Taxi to the Dark Side. His Jigsaw Prods. and Anonymous Content are working together for the project and will dive into the creation of these killers, its reflection on our society and “the values we place on who lives and who dies.”

Next up is from Emmy nominee Stephen Robert Morse, producer of the Amanda Knox documentary on Netflix, whose work on Mangione will explore the different perspectives of those involved in both the murder and its aftermath such as the victims, the families and the suspect himself. It will also dissect the “moral complexities” of the murder, and provide historical context about the issue of privatized health insurance in the United States.

Finally, TV host, reporter and Law & Crime founder Dan Abrams will lead an hour-long special from Investigation Discovery that will dive “into the lingering questions surrounding Mangione’s arrest and explores how a young man of such wealth and privilege could seemingly commit such a heinous crime,” all the while attempting to “explore the psychology behind the alleged assassin.”

Mangione, a 26-year-old, is suspected of killing Brian Thompson in New York City with a ghost gun. Investigators revealed that shell casings found at the scene of the crime read “deny,” “defend” and “depose.” The murder rocked both America and the rest of the world as details about the suspect’s private life — his roots as a member of a prominent family in Baltimore, education as an Ivy League tech graduate, time in Hawaii and problems with debilitating back pain — came to light.

BBC reports that the murder supposedly stemmed from Mangione’s discontent over what he called “parasitic” health insurance companies. He was arrested on December 9 at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania allegedly carrying a gun, bullets, several fake IDs, cash and a supposed “manifesto.”
