Tilda Swinton Stars in Trailer for Post-Apocalyptic Musical ‘The End’
Watch the eerie trailer for the forthcoming film.
Tilda Swinton portrays the matriarch of a family that survived the end of the world in the first trailer for The End. Directed and produced by Joshua Oppenheimer, The End shakes up the concept of the post-apocalyptic movie as a musical drama.
All of the characters are unnamed, with Swinton playing the mother. Michael Shannon co-stars as her husband, while George MacKay plays the duo’s son. Moses Ingram portrays a young woman who shows up at the family’s underground bunker, where they’ve been living for two decades in solitude.
“Twenty-five years after environmental collapse left the Earth uninhabitable, Mother, Father and Son are confined to their palatial bunker, where they struggle to maintain hope and a sense of normalcy by clinging to the rituals of daily life—until the arrival of a stranger, Girl, upends their happy routine,” the film’s synopsis reads.
“Son, a naïve twenty-something who has never seen the outside world, is fascinated by the newcomer, and suddenly, the delicate bonds of blind optimism that have held this wealthy clan together begin to fray.”
