Studio Nicholson and Paraboot Reunite for a Dapper Derby Shoe
The reimagined “Michael” boasts luxurious deerskin uppers juxtaposed with chunky hiking laces.
Studio Nicholson and Paraboot have followed up on their inaugural collaboration with an elevated reinterpretation of the French shoemaker’s Michael derby shoe. Having been designed on the heels of WWII, Paraboot’s classic silhouette makes simple and efficient use of materials featuring only two eyelets with strong leather and rubber fabrication.
Fast forward to 2024, the Studio Nicholson Michael is handcrafted by Paraboot’s artisans within the brand’s small-run factory, ensuring prime quality. The collaborators’ conscious choice of grained deerskin uppers gives the shoe a new luxurious materiality, while fine sheepskin makes up the soft inner lining.
On the unique material choice Studio Nicholson’s creative director Nick Wakeman said he “discovered this particular deerskin which is so special not only because it has this beautiful glossy grain but it is also super durable.”
Norwegian-style welt stitching amplifies the handcrafted feel and duo-tone hiking laces add an eye-catching touch to the rich ganache-hued deer leather makeup. Subtle cobranding appears on a green tab peaking out from the lateral collar, and finally, the durable uppers rest upon Paraboot’s classic French rubber lug sole.
The Studio Nicholson x Paraboot Michael shoe is available now at Studio Nicholson’s web store and retail stores in London, Tokyo and Seoul, as well as selected stockists.
