Meta Teases 'Movie Gen' AI-Powered Video Generator and Editor
The advanced technology will allow users to generate hyperrealistic video and sound, and edit existing videos with simple text commands.
Today Meta posted a short video teasing “Movie Gen,” the tech company’s latest AI-driven initiative for realistic text-to-video creation and editing. With the new technology supported by Meta AI, users will be able to create custom videos and sounds, edit existing videos, and even use one’s own image for unique video generation.
While the Facebook Instagram parent is not the first company in the AI arena to introduce text-to-video features, the clips in the teaser seem to demonstrate unmatched high definition results, making it difficult to tell which videos are completely and/or partially AI enhanced.
The announcement came right off the heels of another major Meta AI product announcement, the Orion augmented reality (AR) glasses prototype. The Orion specs, made in collaboration with Ray Ban will also be designed with AI-capabilities like providing 3D visualizations, spatial object recognition and conversational AI interaction.
With the announcement of Movie Gen, it makes one wonder how the generative video technology might be incorporated into the recently unveiled AR glasses. Perhaps Movie Gen-equipped Orion glasses will enable artists to render 3D visualizations with voice dictation or perhaps instant AI-generated animations can help guide people through unfamiliar places.
While the possibilities seem to be endless, Meta emphasizes that Movie Gen is in the research phase, so people will not get to try their hands at it quite yet. One can hope that Meta will deliver a Movie Gen beta program for people to try the software the near-future.
