New York-based designer Kouros Maghsoudi describes his style as being somewhat “hedonistic”. Through the use of form and material, he aims to create furniture that creates certain kind of atmosphere and environment – and his latest piece, the new “Hug Bed”, is no exception.

First released during a solo show in Mexico, Maghsoudi’s Hug Bed has now been unveiled in a tone he describes as “Satin White”. Its chubby frame, crafted from high-gloss fiberglass, envelops the mattress, with each surface curving softly around the sleeper.

“Whether enjoyed alone, with a lover, or in a large gathering, the Hug Bed is designed to accommodate all of your desires,” the designer says, adding that the silhouette of the bed was inspired by fashion and specifically streetwear. “It seamlessly integrates the boldness of contemporary design with luxury, and the satin white colorway adds a new dimension of elegance and versatility, making this piece not just a bed, but a statement of style and comfort,” he adds.

Upon the bed’s release, Maghsoudi enlisted the vision of photographer Tanner Reese, who shot an editorial featuring Lila Flowers, styled by Lucy Rae McFadin – all with the ambition of cementing Maghsoudi as a designer that knows how to blend creative disciplines to evoke a certain outcome.

In a recent interview with Hypeform (Hypebeast’s dedicated design vertical), Maghsoudi described the ways in which he continues to reinvent his creative process. “While all of my designs have a very consistent narrative of unapologetic hedonism and self-indulgence, one of my fundamental goals is to constantly explore and experiment with new materials and object forms,” he said. “In just four collections, I’ve showcased everything from traditional materials like wood, aluminum, marble, steel, and ceramic to unconventional ones like fiberglass, fur, and even car exhaust pipes.”

“This balance between consistency in my messaging and innovation in my medium is how I continually evolve and reinvent my work, ensuring that each collection offers something new and unexpected while still maintaining my hedonistic narrative.”
