It’s been nearly five months since Kyrie Irving led the Dallas Mavericks to a triumphant game one victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Western Conference Finals. Backing his 30-point performance was a special “Chief Hélà” colorway of the ANTA KAI 1 that brewed up much excitement from fans. Finally, the pair has been announced as a retail release, landing on shelves this weekend.
Paying homage to Irving’s Native American heritage, the “Chief Hélà” pair is named after his gifted Lakota name, which stands for “Little Mountain.” As for the sneaker itself, the pair sports a brown suede upper that combines neatly with a golden brown outsole. Unique to this colorway, the shoe has moccasin-inspired fringes around the embroidered collar. “Kyrie Irving’s deep connection to our Lakota heritage shines through in every step of his journey, and the ‘Chief Hélà’ shoe is a reflection of that bond,” shares his thuwin (auntie), Charlotte Mountain of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
For those looking to pick up a pair of Kyrie Irving’s ANTA KAI 1 “Chief Hélà,” it is set to drop on October 12 via ANTA and select retailers at a starting price of $125 USD.
