Devin Booker's Latest Nike Book 1 PE Salutes the Air Jordan 1 "Shattered Backboard"
A tasteful nod to one of the most beloved Air Jordan 1s of all time.

Devin Booker and Nike have been serving up several striking PE colorways of the Book 1 ahead of its wide-scale debut later this year, and the latest to surface is inspired by one of the most beloved non-OG Air Jordan 1 colorways of all time. Seen on Booker’s feet during the Phoenix Suns‘ New Year’s Eve contest against the Orlando Magic (a 112-107 victory in which Booker put up 21 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds), the new PE is directly inspired by the Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard.” A starfish orange, black and sail style that was released in 2015, the “Shattered Backboard” nods to the uniforms worn by Michael Jordan’s team in a 1989 exhibition game in Italy, notable as a game in which Jordan broke a backboard with a vicious one-handed slam, and, luckly for Booker, provides a decent match with the Suns’ uniforms as well.
Orange toeboxes, collars, heel overlays and tabs work with black eyestays, mudguards, Swooshes and tongues to provide true-to-form “Shattered Backboard” style, with white quarter panels providing both tone and texture contrasts, as, besides the tongue, they’re the only part of the upper that’s not constructed of tumbled leather, instead opting for a fabric build. Sail midsoles and orange outsoles continue the look down below, while Booker’s “Book” hit on the tongue rounds things off.
This “Shattered Backboard” PE follows shortly after Booker took the court in an Air Max 95 “Neon”-inspired colorway of the Book 1, and serves as further indication of the energy around the silhouette. Due to its mid-top cut and classic material construction, the Book 1 is the rare new performance basketball shoe that appears as if it may have a lifestyle application, something Nike is clearly leaning into with these lifestyle-geared PEs.
Though this PE iteration of the Book 1 was created specifically for Booker and will not see a retail release, you can expect the Book 1 to start rolling out in full this spring.
