Zenith just unveiled a special Defy Extreme timepiece in collaboration with British DJ and producer, Carl Cox, who’s also a friend of the luxury watch brand. Back in 2020, Zenith dedicated a limited-edition Defy 21 timepiece for Carl Cox, which featured a carbon bezel, open dial, and miniature vinyl record seconds display that nods to Cox’s music roots.

This time around, the Maison has reimagined the reference with a bolder and more powerful aesthetic. Showcasing an intricately put-together dial, the watch is characterized by yellow gold components that are sandwiched in a micro-blasted steel case.

As a homage to Carl Cox’s DJ status and a celebration of their friendship, the timepiece’s design draw derives from his favorite turntable sets, which come in the form of three vinyl-like subdials. But unlike its preceding model which spotlighted a more tonal look, the new edition is punctuated with gold-plated indices for a retro-futuristic appeal.

As for technical specifications, this special time-teller runs on the Maison’s own El Primero 9004 movement, geared with an astounding rate of 360,000vph for its chronograph function.

Speaking on this collaboration, Carl Cox says “I feel so honored that Zenith has immortalized the three turntables that helped make my name within this watch. Beautifully done and with incredible attention to detail, the watch is a fitting tribute to something that has made dancefloors come to life all over the world from a brand that is known for its mastery of movement.”

The Carl Cox Defy Extreme is released as a limited edition with only 100 examples. Priced at $30,100 USD, the watch is accompanied by an integrated steel bracelet, a rubber strap in Midnight Slate, and a Dark Graphite-hued velcro strap. For more information, visit Zenith’s official website.
