Following her name being plucked out of a bucket the Reaping, Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) is not on her journey alone, finding solace in an unexpected mentor-turned-friend, a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth).

A new trailer is out for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Suzanne Collins’ prequel to the hit Hunger Games book trio and acclaimed film series. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the movie adaptation takes viewers back decades before Katniss Everdeen entered the scene, honing in on the early days of Panem.

Baird, a tribute from District 12 in the 10th annual Hunger Games, isn’t content to go down without a fight. Snow, meanwhile, resides in the Capitol along with his grandmother and cousin Tigris (Hunter Schafer). At odds with himself and what he wants, he finds himself under the influence of Volumnia Gaul (Viola Davis), the residing gamemaker and the dean of the Academy, Casca Highbottom (Peter Dinklage).

The trailer also offers a glimpse into the wrecked landscape of the Games’ arena and some of the horrors Baird and her fellow tributes will have to face.

In other entertainment news, Mark Wahlberg hinted at retiring from acting.
