Actor Chevy Chase further opened up about his departure from Community during a recent appearance on Mark Maron’s WTF podcast.

“I honestly felt the show wasn’t funny enough for me, ultimately. I felt a little bit constrained,” the 79-year-old explained. “Everybody had their bits, and I thought they were all good. It just wasn’t hard-hitting enough for me.”

He also mentioned that he never had a big problem with his character Pierce Hawthorne, who was an old tycoon with a slightly problematic and abrasive personality. “I didn’t mind the character. I just felt that it was… I felt happier being alone. I just didn’t want to be surrounded by that table, every day, with those people,” Chase added. “It was too much.”

Chase was fired from Community for supposedly using a racial slur during an outburst on set. There was also tension between him and creator Dan Harmon due to the direction of Pierce, although the actor stated that Harmon called him to apologize and that there is no beef between them.

Chase will also not be reprising his role in the upcoming Community movie, as confirmed by star Joel McHale.

Elsewhere in entertainment, the original showrunner of The Office US is reportedly helming its reboot.
