In the world of football and soccer, all eyes are on Lionel Messi after his move to the David Beckham owned team, Inter Miami. Since his debut, Messi has taken North America by storm, already scoring five goals in his first three matches so far. In the Leagues cup, he has now played 204 minutes, scored five in three matches with one assist. With his addition, he hopes to lift the team out of last place in the MLS’s Eastern Conference and secure a potential playoff spot down the line.

While is skills on the field are spectacular, watch aficionados were keen to spot the wristpiece the Argentinian soccer player sported prior to his most recent match with Inter Miami. Messi showed up to greet fans prior to the match with a 42.2mm, white gold Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph (REF. 5968G). The watch was on a midnight blue rubber factory strap and is said to be sold cost $75,700 USD. This particular watch features a flyback movement which means that there is no need to stop it before resetting. With a single push press, it will send teh chronograph seconds hand “flying back” to the 12 o’clock mark to begin timing.

The watch was first launched in steel in 2018 with the white-gold edition releasing in 2021. The model is available in khaki and midnight blue dial and features the signature checkerboard grid. The dial sees the date display at 3 o’clock as well as a 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock that mirror’s the bezel’s octagonal shape. Messi has long been a Patek Philippe collector, previously sporting models like the platinum Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5270P at the Best FIFA Football Awards in Paris last February and a white-gold Nautilus Perpetual Calendar Ref. 5740/1G at the World Cup. Take a look at the watch above.
