Not A Hotel‘s latest dreamy property has touched down in mountainous Minakami, Japan. As the hospitality group’s name suggests, the Not A Hotel Minakami Toji residence is not a hotel; it’s more of a minimalistic relaxation oasis.

Not A Hotel Minakami Toji features seven guest rooms and boasts 180-degree panoramic views, creating an elusive indoor-outdoor living environment. The two-floor villa provides plenty of space for guests (up to six) to unwind while simultaneously reveling in their natural surroundings. High wood ceilings give the property a feeling of grandeur as well as aesthetic cohesion.

The second floor houses the living area and kitchen – which are also complemented by an enjoyable array of amenities. A 15-meter heated infinity pool hangs off the edge of the villa, with a natural hot spring, a Finnish sauna, water bath and symbolic fireplace behind.

Two bedrooms, both on the first floor, each serve as the ideal refuge for privacy and solace amidst the otherwise community-oriented property. Each bedroom embraces traditional Japanese design style, implementing tatami mats and and textured walls. There is also a private parking lot on the first floor as well.

As for the outer design of the hotel, a single copper sheet – used for roofing of traditional shrines and tea rooms – is stretched across the exterior. A triangular roof, an ancient and nostalgic practice, ensures practical protection and insulation from the snow.

Not A Hotel was founded in 2020, and continues to blur the boundaries between home and hotel with their innovative properties around the world. See the photos of Not A Hotel Minakami Toji in the gallery above.
