Maison Margiela Launches Pendleton Collaboration
A part of its 2023 Co-Ed collection.
This past January during Paris Fashion Week, Maison Margiela sent its new Co-Ed 2023 ready-to-wear collection down the runway, which was a testament to creative director John Galliano’s appetite for storytelling. But aside from furthering Galliano’s catalog of seductive, yet expansive designs, the collection also debuted its collaboration with the American textile company, Pendleton Woolen Mills. Now the Paris-based house has launched the new collaboration and the larger Co-Ed Fall 2023 collection.
By uniting with the American company, the collaboration looks cast Pendleton’s signature plaid designs in a haute couture context. Whether it be outerwear, tailoring, dresses or denim, the collection was a harmonious fusion of styles – incorporating the American West, American cinema, contemporary punk and Southern Gothic. Specifically, Galliano selected three mid-century weaves from Pendleton’s archive, which include a sunset plaid in blue and pink pastels, a red buffalo pattern and a windowpane check in white, red and black.
With an overall genderless cadence, the collection blends the sentiments of masculinity and feminity for eye-catching constructions. For example, an oversized check shirt may appear with vintage ruffles and front overlays, relaxed floor-kissing trousers see a cheeky touch of mixed plaid fabric at the top or even tulle skirts are paired with a structured, yet remixed blazers for a touch of various personalities. With a taste of rompage, the collaboration and the entire Co-Ed 2023 collection at large are a testament to hand-me-down reinvigoration.
Maison Margiela’s latest Pendleton collaboration and Co-Ed Fall 2023 collection are available now in-store and online.
