Jamila Woods Releases Official Visual for Dance Track “Boomerang”
A song from her forthcoming ‘Water Made Us’ LP.
Chicago musician and poet Jamila Woods never fails to impress with her artistry and concept-driven projects. “Boomerang,” her latest single, follows suit, a lively dance track that hears Woods dip between chant-like singing and light falsetto.
In tandem with the release, Woods has dropped off an official music video. The visual kicks off in a laundromat but soon enough, cuts to Woods shaking up drinks and dancing atop the bar.
“It’s a song about that kind of relationship that keeps popping back up throughout your life, that magnetic attachment you have to someone and the excitement and anxiety that comes with wondering ‘will we or won’t we?,’” she described.
Set at the Chicago Magic Lounge, the music video was directed by the studio VAM, which worked with Woods to shoot the visual in reverse, capturing its final scenes first, an impressive feat given the artist sings along to the lyrics in the video. Burlesque artist Po Chop was also onboard as the director of Woods’ choreography.
“Boomerang” is set to appear on Woods’ forthcoming studio album Water Made Us, alongside solo tracks and collaborations with Saba, duendita and Peter CottonTale.
