Halle Bailey Is Angelic in Formal Solo Debut
The songstress presents “Angel” alongside its visuals.
The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey is now “swimming in her thoughts.” Following the singer’s big-screen debut in the Disney live-action film, she is now shifting focus to her solo music career. Halle’s first music offering (without her sister Chloë Bailey), “Angel” is exactly as ethereal as the song title suggests.
Uplifting listeners in each lyric, Halle’s “Angel” is an angelic empowerment anthem. At nearly four minutes long, she shows off her impressive vocal abilities over a piano melody. She croons, “But angels make a way somehow / And if we fall, we fall on clouds / Black girl here, Black girl with the Black girl hair / Took a little sunkiss just to look like this / God-sent, you’re an angel (Angel).”
The track’s music video sees intimate close-up angles of Halle intermixed with shots of her and her dancers performing a heavenly routine. Halle’s music video outfits don’t disappoint, as the singer shows out in an excess of intricately-detailed pieces, ranging from a silver two-piece set to an otherworldly beaded-feathered cape. Halle teased “Angel”‘s release earlier this week, by clearing her Instagram feed and starting over with a run of promotional “Angel” videos. One nostalgic video compiles old footage and photos of Halle from her childhood and career set to “Angel”‘s piano melody.
“Angel” is available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music.
