Ford Reveals The New Nugget: A Quintessential Glamping Van
Complete with a kitchen and shower.
Ford has revealed the next generation of its Transit Custom Nugget camper, aka the Nugget, with advanced technologies that make for the perfect camping or glamping companion. This latest example of the Nugget was developed in collaboration with renowned camper converter, Westfalia, with the goal of embodying state-of-the-art design, connectivity and driving technologies.
One of the standout features of this launch is the option of a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. This electrified version uses a 2.5L Atkinson cycle petrol engine combined with an 11.8 kWh battery, which also offers pure-electric driving capability.
Inside, the Nugget features a multi-zone layout, defining distinct areas for cooking, living and sleeping. Ford expressed that even with two double beds, there’s ample space for movement, ensuring campers can go about their activities seamlessly without disturbing others.
Additional enhancements to the latest-gen Nugget include a revamped L-shaped kitchen layout, heated rotating captain’s chairs for the driver and passenger, a track-mounted rear bench and a rear-mounted standard hot/cold shower outlet. Other features include a title roof with self-folding fabric for easy operation, roller blinds and integrated storage solutions for outdoor furniture.
The Nugget’s technical features include Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Reverse Brake Assist and a 360 camera for safety. Inside the cockpit, the driver and passenger are met with a digital cluster and a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment center powered by Ford’s SYNC 4 software. There is also an additional dedicated 7-inch touchscreen in the living space that offers control over features like LED interior lighting, water levels, and battery status.
Lastly, ensuring campers stay connected and entertained, the Nugget provides wireless charging and a standard 5G modem. Plus, an innovative solar roof option can power the vehicle’s interior and recharge its leisure battery.
The all-new Ford Nugget is available for order now, primarily in the UK, with prices for its EcoBlue Titanium variant starting at roughly $83,000 USD. Following the initial release will be the PHEV option, which is expected to be rolled out within the next 12 months.
