Ferragamo's Fall 2023 Campaign Is Adorned With Renaissance Masterpieces
Made in partnership with Florence’s Uffizi Gallery.
Ferragamo’s Fall 2023 campaign sets creative director Maximilian Davis’ sophomore collection against a backdrop of Renaissance artworks from the 15th and 16th centuries, in an effort to unite the Florentine House with the spirits of the referential era.
Shot by New York-based photographer Tyler Mitchell, the campaign was created in collaboration with the Uffizi Gallery, the Italian museum where all of the included paintings reside. Among them, Giorgio Vasari’s Portrait of Alessandro de Medici offers a sartorial backdrop for a suit-clad Vittoria Ceretti, while Piero della Francesca’s Diptych of Frederico da Montefeltro and Battista Sforza bolsters the collection’s formalwear, worn by Taemin Park.
Additional artworks include Alesso Baldovinetti’s Annunciation, Giovanni Bellini’s Holy Allegory, Paolo Veronese’s Annunciation, Francesco Granacci’s Joseph Going to Prison, Botticelli’s Portrait of a Man with a Medal of Cosimo the Elder and Botticelli’s The Annunciation of San Martino alla Scala.
“The Renaissance is hardwired into Florence, and Florence is hardwired into Ferragamo,” said Davis in a statement. “At this time of a new beginning at the house, it made perfect sense to reclaim the cradle of the Renaissance as our spiritual home, and to harness the deep, artistic spirit of this city to showcase the new collection.”
Ferragamo planted its seeds in Florence when founder Salvatore Ferragamo returned to Italy, after finding success in the U.S. as a designer for the era’s Hollywood starlets. After making a name for himself as the “shoemaker to the stars,” the burgeoning visionary moved from Campania to Florence, where his brand has been housed since 1927.
