This Special Kari Voutilainen Novelty Is Now Available in a Phillips Private Sale
Featuring a gorgeous engraved caseback depicting the Pleiades.
Phillips revealed the Ref. B.12.1038, an exquisite time-teller crafted by Kari Voutilainen from 2013 in part of its Phillips Perpetual initiative. An amalgamation of horology and visual arts, the timepiece offers an intuitive way to interpret time as it’s also the world’s first decimal minute repeater wristwatch.
Housed in an 18k white gold case, the piece presents a finely detailed and textured dial design. Adorned with Roman numerals and two sub-counters, one of which is an intricately put-together GMT indicator starring both the day and night.
Turning over to the caseback, the timepiece stars a tantalizing hand-engraving by Eddy Jacquet, referencing the Pleiades from Greek mythology. Against a deep blue enamel backdrop, the scene depicts the seven daughters of Atlas in shiny silver, huddled around their namesake constellation.
Speaking on this special timekeeper, James Marks, the deputy chairman and watches and Internation head of Perpetual expressed, “Kari Voutilainen continues to be one of the most respected and admired brands, with a fascinating history and legacy in modern times. This is a rare chance to celebrate and appreciate the remarkable craftsmanship of Voutilainen, and the iconic reference that has become a coveted treasure for high horology collectors.”
Priced at £360,000 GBP (approximately $456,878 USD), the Ref. B.12.1038 is available for private sale via Phillips’ official website for the . For those who wish to take a closer look at the piece, it’s currently on view at Phillips’ European headquarters in London.
