LoveFrom and Linn Collaborate on $60K USD Turntable, the Sondek LP12-50
Linking up for a limited run in celebration of Linn’s 50th anniversary.
LoveFrom, the design firm founded by Apple’s former Chief Design Officer Jony Ive, has rolled out its latest collaboration, a reworked version of Linn‘s Sondek LP12-50 turntable.
In a blog post shared by Linn’s Gilad Tiefenbrun, the founder detailed how the turntable was born from a LinkedIn invitation he received from Ive. While Tiefenbrun initially believed the message was spam, he ended up retrieving it from his trash and, as it turned out to be the real Ive, the two set up a meeting over FaceTime.
During the conversation, Tiefenbrun told Ive, “next year is the 50th anniversary of Linn and the Sondek LP12 turntable.”
Initially, the two focused on improving the turntable’s plastic hinges and power switch. From a design standpoint, they also added curves to the curved edges on the top plate and arm board and gave it a new lid badge.
In the later stages of the process, Tiefenbrun and Ive directed their attention to a new plinth for the Linn Sondek LP12-50. The updated plinth was made out of a single block of a new, dense type of wood, lending itself to functioning on an acoustically silent level.
Only 250 units of LoveFrom and Linn’s 50th anniversary Sondek LP12-50 are available, each priced at $60,000 USD.
