Lichen Releases Resin-and-Steel "Puddle Sconce"
Designed by Christine Espinal and Alvaro Ucha Rodriguez.
Thanks to a roster of talented designers, a swath of community-focused programming and an impressive, constantly rotating selection of carefully-curated furniture and home goods, Lichen — based in Ridgewood, Queens — has become one of the buzziest design and interior shops in the United States. Now, they’ve added further to their roster of original products with a resin-and-steel sconce dubbed the “Puddle Sconce.”
Designed by Lichen team members Christine Espinal (a spatial designer who’s also known for her wavy mirrors and winding Mesa Tres tables) and Alvaro Ucha Rodriguez (a designer who created Lichen’s familiar metal sconces, modular bowls and side tables), the “Puddle Sconce” amalgamates Espinal’s experiments with resin and Ucha Rodriguez’s mastery of lighting. It features a custom oval front made of a light green resin, behind which sits a stainless steel sconce, making for a warm, radiant light that pours out from the middle of the object to highlight its color and construction. It runs 15’ in diameter and 2.5’ in depth, and also comes with a 12 foot light cord — buyer provides the lightbulb.

“Everything we design at Lichen is essentially crowd-sourced [from our clientele] because it’s all about solving problems [for the modern-day consumer],” Lichen co-founder Jared Blake told Hypebeast in a 2021 Sole Mates interview.
And if the lighting options currently available to you aren’t illuminating your spirit, the “Puddle Sconce” is available now at Lichen’s webstore and workshop for $299 USD.
Elsewhere in the world of illumination, former Lichen collaborator Craighill has teamed with Gantri to create the Flux Table Light.
