Architect Álvaro Siza Crafts a Minimalist Timepiece With Lebond Watches
Inspired by the modernist Leça Swimming Pool he designed back in 1996.
Lebond Watches has unveiled its first horology collaboration with Álvaro Siza, a renowned architect and honoree of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Based in Barcelona, Lebond is dedicated to crafting unique timekeeping novelties with acclaimed architects, with inspirations that derive from their architectural works.
The Lebond Siza time-only watch seamlessly amalgamates functionality with a minimalist and elegant aesthetic, featuring a square-shaped silhouette that nods to the design of the Leça swimming pool, which Siza designed back in 1966. Its clean and simple design language is conveyed via the off-white colored dial, which is emblazoned with sans-serif Roman numerals at each of its points. Tying the watch face with Siza’s hallmarked “poetic modernist” aesthetic, the lacquered hour and minute hands are presented in a blunt and geometric form that echoes the distinctive design of the indices.
Its case is crafted from grade 5 titanium in a matte, micro-sanded finish, topped with an anti-fingerprint coating. Measuring 41.5mm across, the case boasts 8.8mm in thickness and houses a Swiss-made ETA 2892-A2 mechanical movement. The caliber is prominently displayed via the watch’s open caseback, where an imprint of Siza’s signature can be found on the sapphire crystal.
An alternative version featuring a black dial with a gold-tone handset and Arabic numerals is also available. Both variants of the Lebond Siza are priced at €2,700 EUR (approximately $2,951 USD) and can be purchased at Lebond Watches’ official website.
