Lebond Gives Norman Foster His First Watch Design Project
The collaboration translates the renown architect’s ideas of proportion, engineering and utility into a mechanical timepiece.
Summary
Norman Foster partners with Lebond on his first-ever watch design.
The 38.5mm titanium model features an integrated strap and 12-hour bezel for dual-time tracking.
Natural titanium and black DLC editions each use an ETA 2892-A2 automatic caliber.
Norman Foster is bringing his design language to watchmaking for the first time, partnering with independent brand Lebond on a pair of mechanical watches shaped by the same ideas of proportion, engineering and functional clarity that define his architectural work.
Developed alongside the Norman Foster Foundation’s Design & Innovation Unit, the project treats the watch as an everyday tool rather than a miniature architectural statement, with Foster drawing on his experience as a pilot and frequent traveler. That influence is most apparent in the bidirectional 12-hour bezel, which allows a second time zone to be tracked without adding a conventional GMT hand, while the case eliminates traditional lugs entirely so the integrated rubber strap flows directly from the watch and wraps closely around the wrist.
The watch arrives in two interpretations built around the same 38.5mm Grade 5 titanium case, measuring just 10mm thick and offering 50 meters of water resistance. The Natural Titanium Edition combines matte sandblasted, brushed and polished surfaces with a sunray-finished dial, polished nickel hands and a light grey FKM rubber strap, while the Black Edition takes a more instrument-like approach with matte black DLC-coated titanium, a black lacquered dial and matching strap.
Both feature blue-emitting Super-LumiNova, a date window at 3 o’clock and interchangeable integrated straps with titanium deployant clasps. Through the sapphire caseback, an ETA 2892-A2 automatic caliber provides 50 hours of power reserve, distinguished by a custom five-perforation rotor rendered in vivid blue on the natural titanium version and red on the black model.
Rather than treating the collaboration as a one-off exercise in styling, Foster designed the watch around adaptability, with the modular strap attachment intended to let owners personalize the piece as additional combinations are introduced over time. The restrained typography, compact proportions and visible movement all reinforce his stated preference for an object that feels “timeless rather than fashionable,” while the integrated construction gives the watch a distinctly architectural sense of continuity. Both the Lebond Norman Foster Natural Titanium Edition and Black Edition are available to order now through Lebond, priced at €3,500 EUR each (approx. $4,000 USD).
