Closer Look at Kengo Kuma's SS24 Fendi Collaboration

Each piece was seen as a small architectural project.

Following Fendi‘s SS24 runway show in Florence earlier this month, we now get a closer look at select pieces made in collaboration with celebrated architect Kengo Kuma.

Kuma approached each piece like he would one of his buildings, making creative use of materials and finishes. As with many of his landmark designs, he purposefully integrates natural elements into the design.

“I’ve always thought of Kengo Kuma as a master of naturalist architecture. He was one of the first to understand the importance of building nature into architecture both inside and out,” said Silvia Venturini Fendi.

The new low-top footwear silhouettes utilize Waranshi Paper, Cork, and technical knits with 3D-printed soles inspired by traditional Yatara bamboo knitting. Select handbags, on the other hand, come fitted with olive tree handles, birch surfaces, and Selleria hand stitches.

“Nature and craft have always been at the center of my work as an architect and a designer. When Fendi asked me to reflect on their bags and shoes, I thought of them like small architectural projects on a human scale,” said Kuma.
