Ferragamo Resort 2024 Makes a Strong Case for Minimalism

For his latest delivery, creative director Maximilian Davis sought inspiration from familial dynamics.

For Ferragamo’s creative director Maximilian Davis, minimalism underscores the Italian heritage brand’s new-age look. Rid of prints and graphics (aside from one fruit-clad dress), the brand’s freshly-minted Resort 2024 collection relies on the 27-year-old designer’s penchant for sharp tailoring, polished silhouettes and pared-back tones for attention.

The line, galvanized by close-knit familial connections, references Davis’ Trinidadian-Jamaican roots just as much as it does Italian traditions and the Ferragamo clan. For Resort, the style clusters within these dynamics served as a starting point, placing priority on the everyday pieces discovered in a family wardrobe — but with an elegant upgrade.

Across the board, construction is precise, with slim and straight-cut suiting, strictly-formed leisurewear and cinched-waist feminine pieces. A black metropolitan coat, for instance, boasts an hourglass facade in both men’s and women’s styles, with Davis’ classic off-centered button closures and a velvet-like finish. Meanwhile, a denim coat and pants feature a boxy construction, with pops of orange stitching, and dress shirts, with hidden buttons, don voluminous sleeves as well as matching, pleated trousers.

While forward-minded, the range remains related to its decades-spanning archives. In particular, Davis reinterpreted a Fall 1999 quilted down jacket with a less extravagant approach, putting comfort at the fore through a modern vision — perhaps, a decision that was made in line with the current era’s increasingly popular “quiet luxury” trend.

Elsewhere, pilot jackets appear with matching skirts; leather trenches arrive in tandem with straight-fitting bottom counterparts; tracksuits are less casual than formal, and large bags are scrunched under models’ arms. Overall, Ferragamo’s Resort 2024 collection further cements Davis’ contemporary oversight of the legacy label, pushing its narrative forward while tapping into the almost-century-old brand’s timeless appeal.
