Dior and Vissla Aim to Make Waves With Their $3,300 USD Wetsuits

Ahead of the summer, Dior has tapped sustainably-minded surfwear brand Vissla for a premium, Japanese-made wetsuit collection. The completely original designs, which were produced in small batches with proprietary quick-dry recycled jersey fabrics, custom hollow fiber thermal lining and fine Japanese foam, come with a hefty price tag of $3,300 USD.

Among the range, the marquee wetsuit features a 3mm full suit with a hybrid zip-up entry system, a Dior “CD Diamond Jacquard” thermal torso lining made from recycled polyester and GBS seams for “maximum sea land performance.” Elsewhere, the collection includes a spring suit and a jacket (which retails for $2,450 USD), enlisting the same materials for warmer environments.

“It’s not often that one of the world’s greatest luxury fashion brands reaches out because they admire products we create at Vissla,” said Rob McCarty, VP of Vissla Design. “This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I set out to collaborate and design the finest handmade surfing wetsuits in the world for Dior. It’s all about the team. We created wetsuit designs with the right fit, function, and materials. The Dior design team styled it as only a French fashion brand could and our expert manufacturing partner Axxe produced each wetsuit by hand to perfection in their facility in Japan.”

The range, which falls under Dior’s larger Beachwear Capsule, abides by the French Maison’s second-annual partnership with Parley for the Oceans, an environmental organization taking action against major ocean threats through its strategy ParleyAIR: Avoid, Intercept, Redesign.
